Modulated antiproton fluxes for interstellar production models

چکیده
Expected differential fluxes of antiprotons at the Earth’s orbit are calculated for minimum and medium strength of the solar modulation. We used an analytical solution in the force-field approximation. Local interstellar spectra are taken as predictions of different theoretical models of secondary production of antiprotons in the Galaxy. All the antiprotonas well as proton-fluxes are modulated in the same way for the purpose of a direct comparison in order to avoid additional uncertainties. It is shown that, in order to compare experimental data with the existing models predictions, next generation experiments should be able to measure fluxes of particles with energies above 100 MeV. c © 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.

Secondary antiprotons in cosmic rays
High energy collisions of cosmic ray (CR) nuclei with interstellar gas are believed to be the mechanism producing the majority of CR antiprotons. The distinguishing spectral shape with a maximum at 2 GeV and a sharp decrease towards lower energies makes antiprotons a unique probe of the models of particle propagation in the Galaxy and modulation in the heliosphere. Besides, accurate calculation...
متن کاملDetailed analysis of observed antiprotons in cosmic rays
In the present work, the origin of antiprotons observed in cosmic rays (above the atmosphere) is analyzed in details. We have considered the origin of the primaries, (which their interactions with the interstellar medium is one of the most important sources of antiprotons) is a supernova type II then used a diffusion model for their propagation. We have used the latest parameterization for anti...
متن کاملTime-variability in the Interstellar Boundary Conditions of the Heliosphere: Effect of the Solar Journey on the Galactic Cosmic Ray Flux at Earth
During the solar journey through galactic space, variations in the physical properties of the surrounding interstellar medium (ISM) modify the heliosphere and modulate the flux of galactic cosmic rays (GCR) at the surface of the Earth, with consequences for the terrestrial record of cosmogenic radionuclides One phenomenon that needs studying is the effect on cosmogenic isotope production of cha...
متن کاملEffects of Solar Modulation on the Low-energy Cosmic-ray Antiproton/proton Ratio
We examine the transport of cosmic-ray protons and anitprotons from local interstellar space through the interplanetary medium to Earth and discuss the resulting e†ects on the low-energy antiproton/proton ratio at 1 AU. We Ðnd that the antiproton/proton ratio at energies above D3 GeV is a useful diagnostic of cosmic-ray transport in the Galaxy. However, at energies below D1 GeV the expected rat...
متن کاملAntiprotons at Solar Maximum
New measurements with good statistics will make it possible to observe the time variation of cosmic antiprotons at 1 AU through the approaching peak of solar activity. We report a new computation of the interstellar antiproton spectrum expected from collisions between cosmic protons and the interstellar gas. This spectrum is then used as input to a steady-state drift model of solar modulation, ...
